Joseph Phelps Vineyards Olive Oil
In 1998, Joseph Phelps had a piece of land that was not suitable for grapevines. Joining this flat open land with the dream of planting olive trees, he planted an olive grove and later added more olive trees on a hillside in 2005. The olive orchard is comprised of four Italian varietals: Frantoio, Leccino, Pendolino, and Maurino.
Each year, they harvest their organically farmed olives at the end of October/early November. This early harvest gives their oil an aromatic, spicy Italian blend. Immediately following the olive harvest, the olives are transported to McEvoy Ranch to be pressed using the stone press or the blade.
With a production of around 200 gallons of olive oil per harvest, the Phelps decided to sell their extra virgin olive oil exclusively in their tasting room at Joseph Phelps winery on Taplin road.
