Regina Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Regina Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) is produced from the Taggiasca varietal of olive trees at the Dickson Napa Ranch, a small producer located in the Napa Valley. The Taggiasca tree varietal originated in Liguria, Italy where it has flourished since it was introduced around year 1,100 by the Benedictine Monks of the Taggia Monastery for whom it was named.
The 1,200 trees they have in their olive grove were planted in 10 years ago, in 2000. Every year the olives are harvested by hand on the hillside in mid to late November, when the olives are between green/purple and black. Most recently, they have been milling their olives at McEvoy immediately following harvest.
Regina’s free fatty acid content of 0.05 percent easily exceeds both the European and California standards of 0.80 percent for certification as extra virgin olive oil. Low acidity levels give the oil a smooth finish and mild scent with delightful fruity accents and elegant golden color.
In 2009, they were the only California oil to win the prestigious “Alma” trophy in Spoleto, Italy!
Varietals: 90% Taggiasca , 5% Maureno, 5% Pendolina
